Some furniture fills a room. Others change the way we experience it. This unique "New Old" bar stool by Simone Post is a collectible where function, art, and design merge into one sculptural whole.
Starting from the classic wooden chair, Dutch designer Simone Post explores how familiar forms can be reinterpreted through color, craftsmanship, and narrative. Each piece in the "New Old" series is individually crafted with characteristic color graduations that allow the wood's original identity to shine through, while simultaneously transforming the chair into a contemporary art object.
This bar stool was created specifically for Object Rotterdam 2023 and is made of solid oak with hand-applied shades in rose, pink, and yellow tones. The combination of the traditional silhouette and the graphic play of colors makes the chair both playful and sophisticated – a piece of furniture that functions equally well as functional furnishing and a striking work of art in the interior.

"New Old" stems from Simone Post's fascination with anonymous wooden chairs that have been a natural part of European homes for generations. Instead of producing new items, she investigates how existing forms can be given new life through color, craftsmanship, and narrative. The series challenges our perception of value and shows how familiar objects can evolve into coveted collectible design pieces.
This edition was produced for the Object Rotterdam 2023 design fair, where the series was presented to international collectors, design galleries, and architects.
About the designer – read more
Simone Post (b. 1990) graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven and is considered among the most interesting voices in contemporary Dutch design. She works experimentally with materials, colors, and sustainable transformations, and has collaborated with Kvadrat, Adidas, and Hermès, among others.
Her works have been exhibited internationally and are part of the collections of Vitra Design Museum, MAD Paris, and Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, among others.
