Kosta Boda Open Minds – Ulrica Hydman-Vallien | 2 Goblets
Two colourful Kosta Boda goblet glasses with plenty of personality – hand-decorated by one of Sweden's most iconic glass artists.
A decorative set of 2 goblet glasses from Kosta Boda's iconic Open Minds series, designed by the Swedish artist Ulrica Hydman-Vallien (1938–2018).
The characteristic pink glasses are decorated with playful faces in Hydman-Vallien's unmistakable idiom. The graphic green and black stripes on the stems provide a strong contrast to the soft pink hues, making the glasses small art objects in themselves.
It is precisely the combination of function, humour, and artistic freedom that makes the Open Minds series so special. The glasses can, of course, be used, but they almost equally deserve to be on display, adding colour and personality to a room.
Both glasses are marked Kosta Boda Artist Collection, Ulrica HV, 98823. The hand-painted decorations are an essential part of the series' character, and each glass has its own unique expression.
A delightful set for those who don't necessarily think glasses have to be identical – but who appreciate a little more personality.
Selected with a focus on NITUSH DNA – design with personality, history, and a twinkle in the eye.
History & Context — Read more ▾
Open Minds was designed by Ulrica Hydman-Vallien for Kosta Boda in 1986 and became one of her most famous series. The series includes both art and utility glassware, such as goblets, vases, bowls, carafes, and other decorative objects. The hand-decorated faces and strong colours have become some of Hydman-Vallien's most recognisable trademarks.
```Open Minds is a good example of how Hydman-Vallien transformed ordinary utility items into personal art objects. The free brushstrokes, the faces, and the strong colour combinations give the series a playful expression that still feels surprisingly modern.
