History & context — read more ▾
For centuries, alabaster has been used for decorative objects, light fixtures, and sculptural interior items due to the stone's unique translucency and soft glow. The material became particularly popular in Italian and Southern European interior design in the mid-20th century.
Organic forms inspired by nature became especially sought-after in the 1960s and 1970s, when handcrafted materials and sculptural silhouettes characterized home décor. This type of leaf dish balances the decorative and functional with a calm and almost architectural expression.
