Bing & Grøndahl – Christmas Plates – Collection from 1921–1959
Beautiful collection of classic Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plates in the iconic blue-and-white porcelain, which has been a beloved Danish Christmas tradition for over a century. Sold individually.
The Christmas plates are made by Bing & Grøndahl in Copenhagen, known for their high porcelain quality and detailed relief motifs. Every year since 1895, the factory has released a new Christmas plate with a motif often depicting winter landscapes, Danish traditions, or historical scenes.
This collection includes several early and sought-after vintages, with the oldest dating back to 1921 and 1922. The motifs include winter landscapes, historic buildings, coastal scenes, and atmospheric Christmas motifs – all rendered in the characteristic cobalt blue relief.
The Christmas plates were originally produced as collectible items and Christmas gifts, and many today use them for table settings (both as a herring plate or for salad/bread) or still display them every December as part of their Christmas decorations. They also work beautifully as decorative wall plates year-round or as part of a collection of Danish porcelain.
The plates are stamped on the back with Bing & Grøndahl Copenhagen Denmark as well as the classic B&G mark with the three towers, confirming their origin.
A fine piece of Danish porcelain history and a beautiful collection for both collectors and those who appreciate classic Nordic design.
