Night carafe
A beautiful piece of glass history – a hand-blown bedside carafe in deep blue shades with fine white enamel decoration.
The carafe's rounded shape, slender neck and decorative motif give it an almost sculptural appearance. The transparent blue glass plays beautifully with the light, while the white decoration adds a fine and distinctive contrast.
Originally, the bedside carafe had its place on the bedside table, where it ensured that you had water right at hand at night. The accompanying drinking glass was placed upside down over the neck and functioned as both a lid and a drinking cup. A charming everyday object from a time when water had to be fetched from the pump.
Selected with a focus on historical craftsmanship, beautiful materials and decorative objects with a special story.
History & context — read more ▾
Bedside carafes were previously a permanent part of the bedroom decor. They stood on the bedside table, so you had access to drinking water at night without having to leave the room.
The accompanying glass was turned upside down and placed over the opening of the carafe. In this way, it functioned as both a drinking cup and protection against dust. This carafe is hand-blown and dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It tells of a time when even everyday objects were crafted with a sense of form and decoration.
